A Historical Message Of The Place Named Wawa Montalban

The tablet at this ground is a sign of historical message of Wawa Montalban. I recommend to read this tablet to be aware whats the significance of the place.

Wonderful River Near From Wawa Dam

Photos above was captured at the part of the river before Wawa Dam

Photos captured above were shot after we passed the  Wawa Dam area.

From the rocky part of the river which located just after the wawa dam water falls

The photos above were captured before the Ondoy typhoon (a 2009 typhoon that destroy lots of homes in major cities in Metro Manila and brought highest and widest floods in National Capital Region and other nearby provices in my country). Photos capture September 19, 2010. These photos were probably different right now if you come back. Like the wooden bridge that I saw and posted "Bridge to Veranda - One Of Place For Rappelling and Rock Climbing" which was destroyed and different right now.

Between Twin Mountain There Is Wawa Dam And River

The photos above were giving emphasis in the two small mountains that put the scenic river in between, this is really a different view for me because it shows uniqueness of the nature that I found in Wawa Montalban. Photos are still part of my Wawa Montalban photo collections.

Wawa Montalban (Introduction) - With Significant Part of Philippine History

Before I started to feature Wawa Montalban, I would like to share some information that I myself discovered a little bit of history of the place.

I found a great history article from searching google and found this link http://info.rockrun.com/articles/wawa-montalban.html. After reading it, I just realized that I just visited one of the historic place in my country.

Here are the excerpts I learned from the article.

"History

Nestled at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains, Wawa Montalban, was once a safe haven for the Philippine Revolutionary Group known as the KKK.  In April 1895 the "Kataastaasang Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan” took refuge in Pamitnan Cave. Their first cry for freedom against Spanish Rule took place in the caverns found in the hollows of the Karst mountains of Wawa.
Stemming from this struggle for freedom from Spanish sovereign, a local legend “Bernardo Carpio”, instilled itself into Philippine mythology.  Bernardo Carpio, a giant in local folklore, tore the mountain in half splitting it and giving birth to the river gorge as he tried to escape from Spanish soldiers.  In 1909, apparently in need of salvaging the devastation created by the giant, the Americans built the Wawa Dam as a reservoir and pumping facility.
In later years, during the Pacific War of WWII, Wawa, Montalban became a battlefield. It became a Japanese Holding Point where the main strength of the former Japanese Manila Defense Force, the Kobayashi Force, which was formed around a nucleus of four infantry battalions with its commander, Maj. Gen. Takashi Kobayashi, defended against the returning Americans, under Gen. MacArthur.  Evidence of the epic battle can still be seen on the boulders and rock faces.  Where the smooth limestone faces catches a sudden peculiar circular track radiating outwards like a spider web, it’s obvious these were hit by bullets aimed at some poor soldier’s head.  "

When I visited the place last year and when I saw the beautiful and amazing place, I myself caught in awe that there is such great haven for adventure such as rappelling and rock climbing just near Metro Manila. And I am glad, I had a chance to be in Wawa Montalban (now Rodriguez) Rizal even for the reason of rappelling.

The coming weeks I will be featuring the photos of Wawa Montalban that I captured while doing and enjoying the basic rappelling course.

Time is so fast ...

I did not realize that it's been a month that had past and I don't have latest updates here in my blog. Had been in outside activities, then I went back home in Manila for almost 10 days vacation. Then, I have to go back to my real life now. Well, these are just my updates what happened to me and these are the reasons why there are not so much updates here, but I intend to continue blogging my country. For the coming weeks I will feature some of the places that I still have in my collection and will continue up to my latest photos that I got when I had my vacation in my beloved country Philippines. Until then...

Symbolic Tower Ball At X-Site in Festival Mall

I captured this tower ball (not really sure if I am right if its really Tower Ball), but the way it stand and whatever it represents, it really a unique thing that can be seen in the middle of X-Site (carnival place inside the Festival Mall).
